Dr. John McQuiston Wilson, a former chief of staff at Methodist Hospital and Crittenden Memorial Hospital in West Memphis, died at Baptist Memorial Hospital Friday after a long illness.

Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Idlewild Presbyterian Church, where he was an elder, with private burial in Elmwood. Canale Funeral Directors has charge.

Dr. Wilson received his degree in medicine from the University of Tennessee, Memphis, in 1937 and served his residency at the old John Gaston Hospital. He was certified by the American Board of Radiology in 1948. He was a member of the Memphis and Shelby County Medical Society, Memphis Roentgen Society, American Medical Association, Tennessee Radiological Society and Radiological Society of North America and a fellow of the American College of Radiology.

He was a lieutenant colonel in the Army Medical Corps in World War II, serving in the 225th Station Hospitals in North Africa and Italy.

He was active in the Presbyterian Medical Benevolence Foundation and was a member of Chickasaw Country Club.

Dr. Wilson, the husband of Margaret Drake Wilson, also leaves a son, Dr. James Wilson of Jackson, Tenn.; a sister, Leslie McGowan of Covington, Tenn., and a granddaughter. The family requests any memorials be sent to Idlewild Presbyterian Church or the charity of the donor's choice.

He also was chairman of the Tipton County Planning Commission and the business and industry committee of the General Advisory Council. He was a board member and past chairman of the Memphis Industrial Personnel Council. He was a former board member of Covington Chamber of Commerce. He received the Expert Infantry Badge and Army Commendation Ribbon. In 1947, he served full-time as chief warrant officer and first sergeant with the Tennessee National Guard until 1966. In 1993, he became a colonel in the Tennessee Defense Force. He was a member of the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Masonic Lodge and the Tau Kappa Epsilon fraternity. He was past president of the West Tennessee Saddle Club. He was chairman of the annual Charity Walking Horse Show and the annual Three-Day Tennessee High School Championship Rodeo for five years. He was a former advisory board member of the West Tennessee Boy Scouts of America, from which he received the Silver Beaver Award. He had served as an honorary colonel on the staffs of former governors Ned McWherter and Lamar Alexander, from whom he'd received three certificates of appreciation and a letter. He also received the Book of Golden Deeds from the Covington Exchange Club, a life membership and a 1983 citation from the Tennessee Chapter of Industrial Association Personnel Employee Security, and a resolution from the Tennessee House of Representatives. He received the James House Williamson Award and Outstanding Industrial Relations Manager from the Tennessee Industrial Council and the University of Tennessee. Mr. Hill, the husband of Gloria Goulder Hill, also leaves a daughter, Donna Lynn Johnson of Cartersville, Ga.; a son, James Timothy Hill of Grand Rapids, Mich.; four sisters, Christine Curtis of Munford, Clara McMillin of Burlison, Mary Glenn Sturdivant of Memphis and Bessie Wooten of Covington, and three grandsons.

He served in the U.S. Air force during the Korean War. He was one of nine children of Cora Lumsden Carrington and Vance Moffatt Carrington, who preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Barbara. Survivors include his former wife, Lorine Padgett, who lovingly cared for him during his illness; a sister, Elizabeth Carrington Kelsey; and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be Saturday at 10:00 a.m. at Collierville United Methodist Church on the Square, with visitation one hour prior from 9:00 to 10:00. Burial will follow in Magnolia Cemetery. HENRY LEWIS BOOTHE, a man of gentle strength, generosity, and dedication, died at the age of 87 on August 11, 2006. He was born in Batesville, MS, USA on December 26, 1918, to the late Beverly E. and Margaret A. Boothe. The hallmarks of his life were family, faith, and duty. Mr. Boothe was a graduate of Central High School, Southwestern at Memphis (now Rhodes College), the University of Tennessee at Knoxville (with a degree in electrical engineering) and Southern Law School (now the University of Memphis). He worked for many years as a sales engineer for Fischer Steel Corporation. He also served in the U. S. Navy in World War II and Korea and in the Naval Reserve, retiring with the rank of Captain after twenty-two years of total service. Following an active membership at Evergreen Presbyterian Church, he was a founding member of Shady Grove Presbyterian Church where he continued to contribute as an elder, a Sunday School teacher, and the chairman of the church's twenty-fifth anniversary celebration. He was also active in the Boy Scouts as a boy and as an adult volunteer. Mr. Boothe chronicled his early life in DOUBLE TROUBLE: TOW-HEADED TWINS. He loved fishing at Bear Creek Lake in Arkansas, building things with his hands, and playing bridge, especially with his long-time duplicate bridge club. He is survived by Mary P. Boothe, his wife of 63 years; his son, Henry L. Boothe, Jr. of Seattle, WA, USA; his daughter, Margaret L. B. Paydar and her husband Majid Paydar, both of Memphis; and his granddaughters, Nikoo E. Paydar and Mehri L. Paydar, both of Washington, D. C. He is also survived by his sister, Sarah Boothe White of Memphis, TN, USA. He was predeceased by his sister, Beverly Boothe Kelly and his (very) identical twin brother, Billy B. Boothe. Mr. Boothe will be remembered by all those who knew him for his honesty, sense of fair play, devotion, and wit, as well as his ability to relate to people of all ages and his pure and helpful spirit. He will be sorely missed by all who knew and loved him. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Sunday, August 13, at Canale Funeral Directors. Services for Mr. Boothe will be at 11:30 a.m., Monday, August 14, at Shady Grove Presbyterian Church with burial in Elmwood Cemetery.
