1635 | Mary Eliza Spann (Mollie) on December 23, 1894. Mollie was born March 6, 1876 in Red River Parish Louisiana (in the Carroll/Coushatta area). She was the daughter of George Washington Spann of Somerset, Kentucky and Sarah Allen of Valdosta, Georgia. She died September 14, 1950 of a heart attack, and is buried in the American Cemetery at Natchitoches, Louisiana. She met Buck after moving to Natchitoches to live with her older sister, Edna Adams. After Buck's death she moved in with her daughter, Lucille, and family, making short visits to her other children. In 1945, she fell and broke her hip and was never able to walk again. She was well known for her seamstress skills and made many beautiful dresses for her granddaughters. She also sewed for ladies in the community and was able to design just what they wanted simply by looking at a picture. This was all accomplished at her old treadle Singer sewing machine. She and her fiends enjoyed quilting, and had many happy times sitting at the quilting game. Two children died in infancy. Both were were born between the births of Ruth and Lucille (possibly). Bessie said she could remember riding in the wagon with the family and “a small casket Mama was holding on her lap”. She had no idea where the babies were buried. Mollie suffered from deep depression after these two deaths, and Buck's family urged him to have her “put away”. He refused, and slowly nursed her back to health himself (Family story passed down through the years.) | SPANN, Mary Eliza “Mollie” (I1044)
