1137 | Dorothy Boyd Dorothy Boyd, 87 of Mildred passed away Wednesday, Feb. 27, 2019. She was born at the old P & S Hospital in Corsicana on Dec. 26, 1931 to John and Eula Grantham. She graduated from Mildred High School in 1950. She graduated from Navarro College and was a member of the original "Barracks Bunch". She worked for the city of Corsicana for 33 years. She then continued on at the Corsicana Senior Activity Center until the fall of 2018. She was a member of Eureka United Methodist Church and a 60 plus year member of Eastern Star. She created a home full of love and laughter for generations of family and friends and will be greatly missed. Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Vernon Boyd; her daughters, Becky Burns and husband, Roy of Corsicana, Sandy Weiers and husband, Jerry of Glendale, Arizona and son Johnny Rob Boyd and wife Cindy of Corsicana. She also is survived by her grandchildren, Garrett Minter, Rick and Ashley Burns, Heather and Jacob Wasinger, Hayden Boyd, Heath Boyd and Chrissy and Brandon Hawn. She has five great-grandchildren; Natalie and Abby Burns, Hank Boyd and Clayton and Connor Hawn. Visitation with the family will be held from 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday, March 2, 2019 at Corley Funeral Home with the funeral service immediately following at 2 p.m. with Pastor Bill Manney officiating. Serving as pallbearers will be her grandsons; Garrett Minter, Rick Burns, Heath Boyd, Hayden Boyd, and Jacob Wasinger with other relatives Jason Baker and Eric Steele. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Randy Boyd, Jimmy Boyd, Bill Massey, Donnie Steele, Abe Steele, Bobby Grantham and J.D. Wright. 1138 | Dorothy Inell Hooper, 96, passed away Saturday, June 4, 2016. She had a deep love for ballroom dancing and spending time with her family. Dorothy lived life to the fullest and spent her last years at King D&S where she loved playing bingo and socializing with her friends. She will be remembered for her spunky spirit and loving heart. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Conrad Hooper. Survivors include two daughters, Jill Dillon (Steven) and Patricia Cunningham (Mike); a son, Claude Bilderback (Sonny); four grandchildren, Cody Dillon (Morgan), Jared Dillon, Caleb Dillon, and Amy Russel (Pat); three great grandchildren and one great- great granddaughter. 1139 | Dorothy Laverne Walker, 89, of Amarillo died Tuesday, Nov. 12, 2013. Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in First Baptist Church Chapel with Dr. Howard K. Batson, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd. Dorothy was born June 12, 1924, in Amarillo to Mr. and Mrs. O.L. Walker. She graduated from Amarillo High School and Amarillo College. For 50 years, Dorothy worked with the youth and international students at First Baptist Church, leading many of them to Christ. When World War II broke out, she and her father went to work at Pantex and worked until the war ended. She went to work at Russell Stationary and later worked for Whitney Printing Co. and went back to Pantex and worked in the purchasing office. She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Grady Lee Walker and James Samuel Walker; a sister, Ruby Lois Walker Ridenour; and a nephew, James Leonard Walker. He also served as past president for the Covington Rotary Club and served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. Services were April 12 at Maley-Yarbrough Funeral Home with Rev. 1145 | Dr. Challace Joe McMillin Dr. Challace Joe McMillin, age 77, died peacefully at his home in Harrisonburg, Va., on Sunday, March 8, 2020. He was born in Gilt Edge, Tenn., on March 18, 1942, to the late Albert Sidney and Clara Hill McMillin. Surviving are his wife of 53 years, Mary Lou Quinn McMillin; daughter, Lisa Wooley and husband, Mike, of Nashville, Tenn.; son, Sid McMillin of Pray, Mont.; and two grandchildren, Christopher Wooley and Rachael Wooley. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Robert Wayne McMillin; and sister-in-law, Paulette Tate McMillin. A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Thursday, March 12, 2020, at Trinity Presbyterian Church, 725 S. High St. in Harrisonburg with the Rev. Stephanie Sorge officiating. 1146 | Dr. George E. Edwards, M.D., 89, of New Cumberland died Saturday, January 7, 2012 at the Carolyn Croxton Slane Hospice Residence, Susquehanna Twp. He was a medical doctor and retired partner from Family Physicians in New Cumberland. A Navy veteran he proudly served in WWII as an officer aboard the USS Dauphin. He graduated from Lebanon Valley College and Pittsburgh Medical School. He was a dedicated husband and father. He was born October 29, 1922 in Hummelstown to the late Ervin and Florence (Hinkle) Edwards. He was preceded in death by his brothers Robert and Charles. He is survived by his wife, Marian T. Edwards; two sons, George T. and Steven A.; and a sister, Jeanne Tesnar. 1147 | Dr. Max R. Carrington, 79, of Florence, Alabama, died Friday November 28,2008. Funeral services were conducted Sunday November 30,2008, at New Hope Missionary Baptist Church in Yuma, Tennessee. Interment followed in the New Hope Cemetery. Dr. Carrington was born January 7,1929, to the late Clifford E. Carrington and Bertha Gooch Carrington. He was also preceded in death by a brother Gooch Carrington. Dr Carrington has a degree from Union University, Masters Degree from University of Tennessee and a doctorate from University of Colorado. Dr. Carrington joined the University of North Alabama faculty in 1960 and retired in 1994. During that time he served as Chairman of the Department of Office Administration and led the department through an effective use of an ever changing technology. In addition to his normal University activities he directed review programs in the preparation for the Certified Professional Secretary examination. He was a leader in the Southern Business Education Association having set a record of attending fifty consecutive annual meetings. He served in a number of Association positions including that of Association President. His influence in the profession was both positive and far reaching. He received a B-A. from Davidson College, the Master of Divinity from Louisville Presbyterian Theological Seminary and the Doctor of Divinity from Davidson College. A retired Presbyterian minister, he had served Thompson Valley and Liberty Hill Presbyterian in Tazewell, Va., Portland Avenue Presbyterian in Louisville, Ky., United Presbyterian in Lebanon. Ky.. First Presbyterian of York, First Presbyterian of Rome. Ga., and First Presbyterian of Greenwood. He had served as interim pastor at First Presbyterian in Florence, Westminister Presbyterian in Lynchburg. Va and as associate pastor of First Presbyterian in Greenville. He served as Moderator at Bethel. Cherokee, Ga., South Carolina and the Synod of the Southeast. He also served on the Board of Trustees of Mountain Retreat Association in Montreal, N.C.. Stillman College in Tuscaloosa, Ala., Presbyterian Homes of S.C. and Queens College in Charlotte, N.C. He served as chairman of the Hospital Chaplaincy program in Greenwood, was founder of the Human Relations Council ' in Greenwood, and served on the Board of Directors of the United Way of Greenwood County. He was president of the Greenwood Kiwanis Club in 1980, and was on the Pastoral Advisor Committee of the S.C. Commission on Alcohol and Drug Abuse. Survivors include his wife of the home; two daughters. Barbara Boyd Gaw of Black Mountain.
