- Dr. Max R. Carrington, 79, of Florence, Alabama, died Friday November 28,2008.
Funeral services were conducted Sunday November 30,2008, at New Hope Missionary Baptist Church in Yuma, Tennessee. Interment followed in the New Hope Cemetery.
Dr. Carrington was born January 7,1929, to the late Clifford E. Carrington and Bertha Gooch Carrington. He was also preceded in death by a brother Gooch Carrington. Dr Carrington has a degree from Union University, Masters Degree from University of Tennessee and a doctorate from University of Colorado. Dr. Carrington joined the University of North Alabama faculty in 1960 and retired in 1994. During that time he served as Chairman of the Department of Office Administration and led the department through an effective use of an ever changing technology. In addition to his normal University activities he directed review programs in the preparation for the Certified Professional Secretary examination. He was a leader in the Southern Business Education Association having set a record of attending fifty consecutive annual meetings. He served in a number of Association positions including that of Association President. His influence in the profession was both positive and far reaching.
He is survived by a sister-in –law Alma Bond, of Huntingdon, Tennessee and numerous cousins.
The family received friends on Saturday November 29,2008, at Dilday Funeral Home West Room.
