She was 101 years old. The funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 26 at Cornwell Presbyterian Church in Blackstock, SC, USA. Burial will follow in the McKeown family cemetery. The family will receive visitors on Saturday, September 25 from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. at Barron Funeral Home in Chester, SC, USA. Born in Chester County, June 22, 1909, she was the daughter of Robert and Helen McDill. Following her marriage in 1944 to James S. McKeown, she moved to his family home place in Blackstock, SC, USA, where she lived until last year when she moved to Palmetto Village in Chester, SC, USA. As a young woman, she worked as a waitress in glamorous resorts and later as a supervisor at a munitions plant during WW II. Following the war, she was employed in the business office of Belk's Department Store in Chester until her retirement. Mrs. McKeown was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years. Survivors include a large extended family of nieces, nephews and their descendants. Local funeral arrangements are by Barron Funeral Home. Sue was a co-founder of the Harlan County Christian School, as well as being active with Harlan County Literacy and the First Book project, among many others. She was a member of the Putney Bible Church, where she enjoyed teaching Sunday school and participating in other church related activities. Sue was preceded in death by her father, Ray Thomas. Survivors include her mother, Joyce Thomas; her husband of 25 years, Mark L. Ford; her son, Darian White, wife Vicky and grandson, Donovan; her son, T.R. Ford; her son, Caleb Ford; her brother, Ken Thomas, wife Melissa and nieces April and Mandy and family; her brother, Bob Thomas, and wife Sherry; her brother, Rick Thomas and fiance’ Bobbie Alpin, nephews Matthew and Jake; her sister, Beth Ann Howard, husband Clay, nephew Robbie and family, and grandson Alex; a very special cousin, Cathy Clem and family; a very special aunt, Faye Belcher; as well as a host of other family, friends and loved ones. 2274	Sun Herald (Biloxi, MS) - July 7, 2006 Deceased Name: Montine Lanier Lang Montine Lanier Lang, 95, of Gulfport, died Monday, July 3, 2006, in Gulfport. She was born in Pearl River County and was a longtime resident of the Gulf Coast. Mrs. Lang was a registered nurse and retired from Memorial Hospital at Gulfport in 1975. She was a member of Gateway United Methodist Church in Lyman. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edwin B. Lang. She was the last surviving member of the 12 children in her family. She is survived by a son, Lanier Lang and his wife, Kay of Gulfport; two grandchildren and three step-grandchildren; five great-grandchildren and seven step great-grandchildren; and four step great-great-grandchildren. Her family extends special thanks to Lakeview Nursing Center and its doctors, nurses and other staff members. There will be a memorial service held on Saturday, July 22, 2006 at 2:00 p.m. at Bradford-O'Keefe O'Neal Road, Gulfport where friends may visit from 1:00 p.m. until the service. Susan was a loving wife and mother, supportive friend, and leader in her community. She was a faithful member of Munford First United Methodist Church where she served as assistant librarian for many years. She also served several terms on the Tipton County School Board, Munford Library Board, and as a Girl Scout Leader. She was deeply loved, and she will be dearly missed. SCHMAHL, 77, long time resident of Arcadia, who died Monday, were held Thursday in Baggerley funeral home in Edmond. Burial was in Memorial Park cemetery. Mr. SCHMAHL was born in Missouri, and made the run into Oklahoma in 1889, settling with his parents on a farm near Crescent. Later he moved to Arcadia where he owned and operated a cotton gin from 1915 to 1937. He then became an oil broked [sic] until retirement in 1957. Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Betty S. McQUISTON, of this city, died early Saturday after a brief illness, being stricken by an attack of paralysis, never recovering consciousness afterwards. Funeral services by Revs LOVE & BETTS, burial in family lot in Munford Cemetery. A son of the late Hugh Murdock McQUISTON and Elizabeth McDaniel Boyd McQUISTON, was born near Salem 70 years ago. He was married on January 3, 1894, to Miss Elizabeth Baker LEMMON, to which union seven children were born, wife and five children surviving. His children: Holmes C. Beard, died at her home north of Warren last Tuesday, February 13. She had been in ill health for several years. Mrs. Beard was born March 25, 1874, in Cleveland county. On December 8, 1897, she was married to W. E. Beard. She was a member of the Methodist church and of the Woodman circle. Mrs. Beard is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Roy Burnett of McNary, Oklahoma, and Mrs. Keith (cont'd at top of 2nd column) Thompson of Warren; one son, Hugh Beard of Carlisle; four grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. E. J. Carter of Little Rock and one bother, [sic] J. P. Davis of New Edinburg. Funeral services were conducted February 14 at 2:30 by Rev. J. W. Mann and Rev. J. M. Sinpson. Beard, 57, Dies Monday, February 19, from Attack of Pneumonia ------ William Edward Beard, aged 57, died at his home six miles north of Warren Monday evening, February 19, at 6 o'clock, just six days after the death of his wife. Death was caused by pneumonia. He was a brother of T. B. Beard, sheriff and collector of Bradley county. Mr. Beard was born December 1, 1877, in Bradley county, the son of Mr. and Mrs. R. D. Beard. He attended rural schools and also Warren High School. On December 8, 1897 he married Miss Emma Jane Davis and they made their home on a farm north of Warren. He was a member of the board of stewards of the Methodist church and superindent of the Sunday school. For 20 years he served on the school board. he was a member of the Woodmen of the World. Mr. Beard is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Roy Burnett of McNary, Ariz., and Mrs. Keith Thompson of Warren; one son, Hugh Beard of Carlisle, Ark.; four grandchildren; three sisters, Mrs. Dudley Wardlaw and Mrs. Walter Parrott of Warren and Mrs. Willis Thurman of Banks; a bother, [sic] T. B. Beard of Warren and his step-mother, Mrs. Ola Beard of Fordyce. Funeral services were conducted Tuesday afternoon at Shady Grove church by Rev. Simpson and Rev. J. W. Dr. Ed Melvin will officiate and burial will follow in the church cemetery. -Mr. Boyd, 75, died Wednesday, July 8, 2009, at his residence. -Born in Chester County on July 6, 1934, he was a son of the late Andrew W. and Josie Brooks Boyd. A graduate of Blackstock High School, Mr. Boyd retired as branch manager of Founders Credit Union after 26 years of service. As a member of Pleasant Grove Presbyterian Church, he formerly served as an elder and with various other church activities. Mr. Boyd was past president of the Chester Rotary Club and the Chester County Chamber of Commerce and past master of the Blackstock Masonic Lodge No. 180. He was also a former member of the Chester County Zoning Committee and the Chester Airport Committee. -Survivors include his wife, Edna Carter Boyd; two sons, Daniel Wallace Boyd and his wife, Joy, of Chester and David A. Boyd of York; a daughter, Debora B. 2294	The funeral service for J. W. McCreight will be held this morning at 11 o'clock at the Arsenal Hill Presbyterian Church, of which he was a member, and the pastor of the church, the Rev. S. K. Phillips, will officiate. Interment will follow in Elmwood cemetery. Mr. McCreight died at the Baptist hospital at 6 o'clock Monday afternoon after an illness of six weeks. He had lived in Columbia for the past 15 years and has made a host of friends here. He was born in Winnsboro and it was there that he joined the Boyce Guards of the Sixth regiment of the South Carolina Volunteers at the age of 19. Of the Boyce Guards, Mr. McCreight was the last surviving member. In the Battle of Seven Pines, he received a wound, while most of his comrades were fatally injured. After the Confederate war, Mr. McCreight was active with the Ku Klux Klan in bringing about law and order in South Carolina. He was a member of the Odd Fellows and Red Shirts and much of his time was given to making and renewing friendships. He has a wide family connection around Winnsboro, Cheraw and Camden. Surviving him are: One daughter, Mrs. T. C. Thornton of Columbia; four sons, J. Shannon McCreight of Manhattan, Fla., J. W. McCreight and J. B. McCreight, both of Johnston, and R. L. McCreight of Petersburg, Va., and 13 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. The active pallbearers will be: E. G. Smith, Liles Smith, D. W. Robinson, Sr., T. B. Roach, J. A. Hancock and R. L. Burnet. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be: F. F. Whilden, Dr. J. L. Thompson, General W. A. Clark, H. F. Timmons, Charles Goodwin and J. P. Rawls. I Louis LeFlore considering the uncertainty of this mortal life being of sound mind ; memory ( blessed by almighty God for the same), do make and publish this my last will and Testament in manner and form following that is to say , First I will to direct that all my land debts be paid out of monies to be raised by the sale of such personal property as I may leave at my death exclusion of Negroes provided the same shall be sufficiently for that purpose but if not sufficient then I direct that so much of my real estate shall be sold as may be necessary to complete the amount required for the payment of my said debts. Secondly, I give and bequeath to my son Forbis Leflore the sum of seven hundred dollars, to my two nephews Stephen Crevat ; Placid Crevat each three hundred dollars to my niece [Maruyayu ? ] Crevat, three hundred dollars to be paid by my executioners within one year of my after my decease out of monies to be raised by the sale of such personal property, Negroes excepted as I may leave at my death if the same shall be sufficient for the purpose after the payment thereout [sic] of my just debts but if not sufficient there I direct that so much of my real Estate shall be sold as may be necessary to complete the amount requisite for the payment of my said debts the [????] above bequeathed. M Chisum    Facts on Louis Leflore  Born 29 June 1762 in what is today, Mobile, Alabama the son of a French soldier Jean Baptise Leflau and Marie Jeanne Girard. Jean Baptise Leflau arrived at Mobile before 9 January 1735 because on that day he served as Godparent for the son of Jacques Claude Dupont and Marie Foucalt "of Paris." On 19 June 1735, Jean Baptise Leflau married Jeanne Boissinot, a native of Mobile. The church records further record that he was the son of Jacques Leflau and Magdeliene Vichet of Versailles, Ste. Croisse parish who was a foot soldier in the company of Sieur de Bombelle.  Louis, however, came into the world as a result of a second marriage to Marie Jeanne Girard, the daughter of Jean Girard and Marie Anne Daniau who had been married in Mobile in 1732. The last child of this couple would be Michael Leflore, who received baptism on 29 November 1767. Michael Leflore received two sections of land in the Treaty of Dancing Rabbit Creek. That land encompassed the site of the village of Bowlingreen in Holmes County.  Operating out of Natchez, Louis began trading with the Choctaw Nation around 1780.  About 1790 married Nancy and Rebecca Cravat, the wards of Chief Pushmataha of the Choctaw nation. They were the daughters of John Cravat and the daughter of Roscoe Cole and an a woman of the Chocchuma tribe. Cravat has given the two girls to Pushmataha, their uncle, before returning to trade among the Chickasaw.  Louis Leflore moved up the Pearl River, establishing a trading post at LeFleurs Bluff, the future site of Jackson, Mississippi. Greenwood Leflore born here on 2 June 1800.  Louis Leflore and Louis Durant introduced cattle raising in present day Attala and Holmes Counties by 1810.  Established French Camp on the Natchez Trace and later ca 1820 the town of Rankin on Black Creek in Holmes County.  His son Greenwood Leflore became one of the chiefs of the Choctaw Nation [NW District].  Son-in-law Samuel Long donated land for the site of Lexington, county seat of Holmes County. Also a founder of the first church in the town. [Presbyterian]  Major in the Russel Expedition to Alabama in February – May 1814 also with Choctaw forces under Jackson in the Battle of New Orleans in 1814.  Said to have been confidant and close personal friend to Andrew Jackson. 2296	The present Purity Presbyterian Church in Chester began as Bull Run Church, and may have been organized as early as 1770. Although the church moved into town in 1839, the term Old Purity continues in common usage and usually refers to the ancient cemetery at the former site. CARRINGTON DIES AT HOME IN VICTORIA Robert Petty Carrington, age 84, former merchant and pioneer dairyman and planter, died at him home in Victoria early Friday morning, after a lingering illness. Mr. Carrington was born in Marshall County and had lived here all his life. Active in community affairs, Mr. Carrington took a leading part in affairs in the Methodist Church. He had served as superintendent of the Sunday School at Victoria more than 35 years. He served as a stewart of his church until his health failed. Mr. Carrington, as a young man, attended the Winston Academy for Boys at Blue Mountain. Later, he worked for the firm of Coopwood and Holden at Collierville. On Jan. 3, 1892 he married Miss Nannie Moffatt, ten years later she died. Later he married Mrs. Emma Williams Carrington, his brother's widow. He is survived by the following children; Claud, Emery, Edwin, Charlie Carrington; and Miss Ella Mae Carrington, Mrs. Mattie Jones, Mrs. Callie Shoffner and Mrs. Mary Williams, all of Victoria; R. R. Carrington and Mrs. C. W. Fleming, both of Collierville, Tenn. and a sister, Mrs. Tom Williams, Victoria. He leaves 26 grandchildren and thirteen great grand-children. He had six grandsons in the Army. Services were held at Victoria Methodist Church Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock by his pastor, Rev. T. G. Lowry, assisted by a former pastor and close friend, Rev. S. H. Caffey, of Clarksdale. Burial was in the Carrington Cemetery. (His marriage date to Nannie J. Moffatt in this newspaper article is incorrect. The correct date is Dec. 31., 1881.)
