W. E. Beard, 57, Dies Monday, February 19, from Attack of Pneumonia
------
William Edward Beard, aged 57, died at his home six miles north of Warren Monday evening, February 19, at 6 o'clock, just six days after the death of his wife. Death was caused by pneumonia. He was a brother of T. B. Beard, sheriff and collector of Bradley county.
Mr. Beard was born December 1, 1877, in Bradley county, the son of Mr. and Mrs. R. D. Beard. He attended rural schools and also Warren High School. On December 8, 1897 he married Miss Emma Jane Davis and they made their home on a farm north of Warren.
He was a member of the board of stewards of the Methodist church and superindent of the Sunday school. For 20 years he served on the school board. he was a member of the Woodmen of the World.
Mr. Beard is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Roy Burnett of McNary, Ariz., and Mrs. Keith Thompson of Warren; one son, Hugh Beard of Carlisle, Ark.; four grandchildren; three sisters, Mrs. Dudley Wardlaw and Mrs. Walter Parrott of Warren and Mrs. Willis Thurman of Banks; a bother, [sic] T. B. Beard of Warren and his step-mother, Mrs. Ola Beard of Fordyce.
Funeral services were conducted Tuesday afternoon at Shady Grove church by Rev. Simpson and Rev. J. W. Mann, pastor of the Warren Methodiist church. Burial was in Shady Grove cemetery.
Active pallbearers were Ora Plain, Joe Bethea, Dennis Young, Phinis Slight, Orlan Carter and Willie Robbins. Honorary were L. J. Burbridge, Nick Turner, Meek Singer, Jim Moseley, W. A. Baker, Everett Neely, W. S. Goodwin and Harvey Rowland. [2]
