2135	Roy Boyd Brazell, 68, of Prescott, formerly of Camden, passed away on January 21, 2015, after a two-year battle with cancer. Although as an adult, he went by the name of Roy, his family and Camden friends called him Boyd. He was born in Camden on November 17, 1946, to parents Roy Benjamin Brazell and Dorothy Boyd Brazell, both of whom preceded him in death. He grew up in Camden, attending the public schools. He was a 1968 honor graduate of Austin (Presbyterian) College in Sherman, Texas. Later, he earned a master's degree in German at the University of Memphis and another master's degree in comparative literature from the University of Arkansas. He held an Arkansas teaching certificate and taught in several school districts in the state. He also taught for several years at a junior college in Mississippi and at a public school in Columbia, Tennessee. He is survived by his sister, Jane Brazell Sisolak and her husband Tom of Fort Worth, Texas, and his niece, Mary Beth Sisolak Wagner and her husband Dale, also of Fort Worth. Other survivors include the following first cousins: Sammy Brazell (Judy) of Magnolia; Danny Brazell (Maria) of McNeil; Virginia Riddick of McNeil; Kay Roberts (Vern) of Helena, MT; Ray Armstrong (Sue) of Billings, MT; Elizabeth Pell of Memphis, TN; John Pell of Memphis TN; Mary Alice Morrison of Clover, SC. He will be buried in the Shiloh Cemetery at Lamartine (Columbia County) in the Brazell family site. A graveside service will be held on April 18, 2015 at 2:00 pm, with Rev. Erin Kaye of Camden's First Presbyterian Church officiating, under the direction of Herndon-Pharr Funeral Home. 2136	Roy Carter The funeral service for retired AT&T lineman Roy V. Carter of Paris will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at McEvoy Funeral Home. Roger Banks of Van Dyke Church of Christ will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Chosen as pallbearers are Nathan Baker, Kevin and Chuck Carter, Rusty Turner, Bill Hudson and Mack Allen. Honorary pallbearers will be Ricky Turner and Joe N. Walker and all current and retired BellSouth and AT&T employees. Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. today and after 10 a.m. Wednesday. Carter, 76, died Sunday, Nov. 20, 2011, at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital. His wife, Jo Anne Manning Carter, survives. They were married on June 15, 1957. Born in Springville on May 14, 1935, he was a son of the late John Thomas and Willie D. Walters Carter. Carter was a member of Van Dyke Church of Christ. A U.S. Army veteran, he served from 1958-1960. He retired in 1995 after 39 years as a lineman with AT&T. His wife said he loved his family, gardening and mowing. He also leaves one daughter: Mary Anne (Terry) Wilkinson of Paris; one son: David (Denise) Carter of Paris; two sisters: Totsye Baker and Nelda Faye (Bill) Turner, both of Springville; a sister-in-law: Pat Carter of Eva; two grandchildren: Kayla (James) Marrs and Justin Carter; and one great -grandchild: Carter Marrs. 2137	Roy Clyde Burns, 66, of Corsicana, Texas, passed peacefully, joining his parents and Heavenly Father, finally overcoming his hereditary heart concerns on Thursday May 7, 2021. He was at his home surrounded by his loving wife and loyal Border Collie. Roy was born June 24, 1954 in Corsicana, Texas to Frederick C. and Rhee (Harrison) Burns. He graduated from Paschal High School, Ft. Worth in 1972 and from Texas A&M University in 1976 with a Degree in Agriculture Economics. Roy was a third-generation Navarro Co. farmer of cotton, corn, milo and wheat. He took great pride in working the land with his father. Roy received many service awards throughout his career including Navarro Co. Farmer of the Year, Texas Department of Ag for Outstanding Service to the Cotton Producers Advisory Board, Hall of Fame Extension Volunteer Award for Distinguished Leadership and Longstanding Service to Extension Education Programs, Honorary Chapter Future Farmers of America Degree presented by Mildred High School and Award for Dedicated Service to Navarro Co. Farm Bureau Board where he served as President for many years. After retirement he loved to watch old westerns, visit Disney, cheer for his Texas A&M Aggies, Mildred Eagles, NASCAR and work with his father-in-law on the ranch. He also enjoyed loving on his pup Aggie and visiting with his grandchildren. Roy is survived by his wife of 23 years Becky Burns; son, Rick Burns his wife Ashley and two granddaughters of Des Moines, IA. Son Garrett Minter and Sarah Hinkley of Fort Worth, TX and daughter Elizabeth Burns of Jacksonville, FL. as well as father-in-law Vernon Boyd. He is preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Rhee, and mother-in-law Dorothy Boyd. To celebrate Roy’s life, the family has planned a visitation on Wednesday, May 12, 2021 from 12 to 2 in the afternoon at Corley Funeral Home. A service celebrating Roy’s life will follow at 2 o’clock in the afternoon with family friend, Deacon Ronnie Sykora officiating, in the Magnolia Chapel at Corley Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be John Jackson, Ken Kenzie, Ed Wilkie, Craig McCracken, John Robert Boyd, David Matthews and Justin Crittenden. 2138	Roy E. Williams, 57, of Bay City, died in Libya North Africa July 9, 1978. He was born in Matagorda County Nov. 28, 1921. He is survived by his wife Mrs. Ethel Williams, mother, Ruth Williams, both of Bay City; daughters Sherry Richardson of Bryan and Linda Soli of Columbia Lakes; two grandchildren Kerin and Kreg Soli. He was employed by Marathon Oil Corporation. The funeral services will be held at Taylor Brothers Funeral Home Chapel Sunday, July 16, 1978 at 3 p. m. with the Rev. 2139	Ruby B. Boyd of Amarillo died Wednesday, Dec. 22, 2010. Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Trinity Methodist Church with Dr. Doug Mills officiating. She married James "Dub" Boyd on June 12, 1943, in Amarillo. Ruby loved to garden and work outside. She was Dub's bookkeeper for their family business as well as for their personal life for more than 60 years. She also loved doing crossword puzzles. She was a loving wife, mother, sister and grandmother who will be missed by all she knew. 2148	San Antonio Express-News (TX) - September 18, 2008 Deceased Name: George Nolan Boyd Dr. George Nolan Boyd, professor emeritus, Department of Religion, and former administrator at Trinity University, died on September 2, 2008 in Denver, Colorado. Although born in Kansas on August 27, 1936, George always considered himself to be a Texan. Eldest child of Nolan and Pearl Roll Boyd, George spent his childhood and adolescence in the Lone Star State. After graduating from Lamar High School in Houston in 1954, he received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Austin College in Sherman, Texas in 1958 and a Master of Divinity degree from Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary in 1962. During the 1962-63 academic year he studied with Professor Gottfried Locher at the University of Berne in Switzerland in the history of Christian thought. He was awarded a doctoral degree by Union Theological Seminary in New York in 1970. George was ordained to the ministry by the Presbyterian Church in the United States in 1962. In 1960 he married fellow Texan Lois Randerson, and their daughter Carol was born in New York City. From 1967-69 George served on the faculty of Colgate University prior to joining the faculty of Trinity University where he would remain for over 30 years. George's teaching interests were in the field of contemporary religious thought including courses in religion in literature and film, and medical ethics. George also served in many administrative roles including Dean of the Division of Humanities and Arts, Director of Study Abroad and Off Campus Study, and Executive Director of Admissions and Financial Aid. In these capacities, he was a creative leader and a skilled mentor of personnel under his supervision. George established and continuously guided the Study Abroad Program at Trinity which now sends almost half of its graduates abroad. He and his wife Lois, who served as Director of Trinity University Press and later Administrative Assistant to the Vice President for Academic Affairs, were deeply committed to the university and were noted for their continued presence at university lectures, athletic contests, and other community events. Beyond Trinity, George held membership in various regional and national scholarly organizations. He served on the National Board of Directors of the American Academy of Religion. He was also widely respected in the field of International Education and was recognized by his peers with two Lifetime Achievement Awards; one from the Institute for International Education of Students (IES) in 1999 and the other from NASFA: Association of International Educators, Section on US Students Abroad (SECUSSA) in 2000. Following retirement from Trinity in 2000, George accepted a position at the University of Denver where he assumed the role of Director of Site Development within the Office of Internationalization and later Associate Vice Provost for Internationalization. George was prominently involved in the development of the Cherrington Global Scholars program which enables DU students to study abroad in more than 200 sites across the world. Besides his family, George's greatest love was international travel. Together, George and Lois traveled the world, visiting too many countries to count. Some of their favorite trips were to China, Russia, Japan, Egypt and dozens of visits to Europe. In April of this year, George was thrilled to visit the ruins of Machu Picchu in Peru. Preceded in death by his parents and by his adored Lois in 2007, George is survived by his daughter, Carol Stephenson, her husband Bruce, and beloved grandchildren Erik and Claire; sisters Betty Storms and husband Phil, Linda Sparkman and husband Terry; nieces Karen Robbins and Cindy Woodland, and nephews Chris and Brian Sparkman. A memorial service will be held at Trinity University in the Parker Chapel on Saturday, September 20th at 10:30 A.M. Lois served 27 years at Trinity University as Editor and then Director of Trinity University Press and as Assistant to the Vice President for Academic Affairs. She also authored and coauthored several books in addition to essays in books, articles in academic journals and encyclopedias, and reviews, papers and manuals. Honors and awards included the Presbyterian Historical Society's Distinguished Service Award and Trinity's Fern Malsbury Award. Lois is survived by her husband George, daughter Carol Stephenson, her husband Bruce, and grandchildren Erik and Claire Stephenson. A memorial service will be held at 10:00 A.M.
