The funeral service for retired AT&T lineman Roy V. Carter of Paris will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at McEvoy Funeral Home.
Roger Banks of Van Dyke Church of Christ will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Chosen as pallbearers are Nathan Baker, Kevin and Chuck Carter, Rusty Turner, Bill Hudson and Mack Allen.
Honorary pallbearers will be Ricky Turner and Joe N. Walker and all current and retired BellSouth and AT&T employees.
Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. today and after 10 a.m. Wednesday.
Carter, 76, died Sunday, Nov. 20, 2011, at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital.
His wife, Jo Anne Manning Carter, survives. They were married on June 15, 1957.
Born in Springville on May 14, 1935, he was a son of the late John Thomas and Willie D. Walters Carter.
Carter was a member of Van Dyke Church of Christ. A U.S. Army veteran, he served from 1958-1960. He retired in 1995 after 39 years as a lineman with AT&T. His wife said he loved his family, gardening and mowing.
He also leaves one daughter: Mary Anne (Terry) Wilkinson of Paris; one son: David (Denise) Carter of Paris; two sisters: Totsye Baker and Nelda Faye (Bill) Turner, both of Springville; a sister-in-law: Pat Carter of Eva; two grandchildren: Kayla (James) Marrs and Justin Carter; and one great -grandchild: Carter Marrs.
He also was preceded in death by a brother: W.T. Carter; and a brother-in-law: Jeff Baker. [3]
