Text | Tom I went up Salem yesterday and William Bonner is in fact buried next to Hugh and Jane B. Thompson. I could find no other Bonners. It seems mighty coincidental that William H. Thompson's death cert lists Jane's maiden name as Bonner and that William Bonner is buried right next to them. His headstone shows death on 14 Jul 1846, aged 78 years, putting his birth around 1768 so he is far to old to be a sibling of Jane's. The absence of census data to put him in Tipton County is a bit worrisome but I can't think of any reason for him to be buried right there other than being the father or other close relative of Jane. There are a lot of Banks markers to the north west of Jane B., Hugh Thompson and William Bonner but there are none immediately nearĀ them. I think a reasonable argument can be made given the proximity of William Bonner, Hugh and Jane B. Thompson's headstones and the death cert of their son William Hodge Thompson. I usually have a hard time disproving a vital record like that. I agree that more supporting evidence would be the best way to go but I feel *fairly* confident that William is Jane's father, emphasis on fairly. Ingram | |
