Text | FORD Harriet Lowrey, 87, died peacefully at home on March 26, 2014. Born in Louisville and raised in Baltimore, she was named "Lady Harriet" by her father, a poet, but was known to all by her middle name. An independent young woman, she earned an MLS at the School of Library Science at LSU, where she met her husband of 57 years, Thomas R. Ford. She raised four children and earned a second Master's degree at UK. Her professional experience was at LSU, University of Alabama, Lexington Public Library, Universidad de los Andes in Bogota, Colombia, Georgetown College, and the University of Kentucky. She and her husband loved to travel, and she was fortunate enough to visit every continent but Antarctica. She will be greatly missed by her four children, each of whom she loved and inspired to pursue successful careers: Margaret Ford, Newton, MA; Janet Ford, Lexington, KY; Mark L. Ford, Harlan, KY; and Charlotte Ford, Birmingham, AL. She is also survived by seven grandchildren: Daniel, Carmen, Darian, T.R., Caleb, Adam and Dylan; and four great-grandchildren: Donovan, Carson, Eli and Sylvia. A private memorial service will be arranged at a future date. - See more at: http://www.legacy.com/obituaries/kentucky/obituary.aspx?n=harriet-ford&pid=170426165#sthash.Bx3Pljq5.dpuf Published in Lexington Herald-Leader on Mar. 30, 2014 | |
