- Roy Clyde Burns, 66, of Corsicana, Texas, passed peacefully, joining his parents and Heavenly Father, finally overcoming his hereditary heart concerns on Thursday May 7, 2021. He was at his home surrounded by his loving wife and loyal Border Collie.
Roy was born June 24, 1954 in Corsicana, Texas to Frederick C. and Rhee (Harrison) Burns. He graduated from Paschal High School, Ft. Worth in 1972 and from Texas A&M University in 1976 with a Degree in Agriculture Economics. Roy was a third-generation Navarro Co. farmer of cotton, corn, milo and wheat. He took great pride in working the land with his father.
Roy received many service awards throughout his career including Navarro Co. Farmer of the Year, Texas Department of Ag for Outstanding Service to the Cotton Producers Advisory Board, Hall of Fame Extension Volunteer Award for Distinguished Leadership and Longstanding Service to Extension Education Programs, Honorary Chapter Future Farmers of America Degree presented by Mildred High School and Award for Dedicated Service to Navarro Co. Farm Bureau Board where he served as President for many years. After retirement he loved to watch old westerns, visit Disney, cheer for his Texas A&M Aggies, Mildred Eagles, NASCAR and work with his father-in-law on the ranch. He also enjoyed loving on his pup Aggie and visiting with his grandchildren.
Roy is survived by his wife of 23 years Becky Burns; son, Rick Burns his wife Ashley and two granddaughters of Des Moines, IA. Son Garrett Minter and Sarah Hinkley of Fort Worth, TX and daughter Elizabeth Burns of Jacksonville, FL. as well as father-in-law Vernon Boyd. He is preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Rhee, and mother-in-law Dorothy Boyd.
To celebrate Roy’s life, the family has planned a visitation on Wednesday, May 12, 2021 from 12 to 2 in the afternoon at Corley Funeral Home. A service celebrating Roy’s life will follow at 2 o’clock in the afternoon with family friend, Deacon Ronnie Sykora officiating, in the Magnolia Chapel at Corley Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery.
Serving as pallbearers will be John Jackson, Ken Kenzie, Ed Wilkie, Craig McCracken, John Robert Boyd, David Matthews and Justin Crittenden.
