- REBECCA GLOVER'S OBITUARY
Mrs.Rebecca Glover Thomas, of Vardaman, passed away suddenly at her home on Friday, November 23, 2018. Mrs. Thomas, a retired Educator who many remember being an English Teacher at Vardaman High School, was 86.
Mrs. Thomas was born on October 19, 1932 in Munford, Tennessee to William Edgar Glover and Lavenia Black Glover. Upon graduating from The University of Tennessee, she would begin a 38 year career as a dedicated Teacher, with 35 years of service as an English Teacher at Vardaman High School. In addition to her teaching duties, she sponsored and supported numerous extra curricular activities that included organizing the first Beta Club, Student Council, The Pep Club, the Cheerleading squads, and helping establish the Vardaman School Support Group. As a member of Vardaman First Baptist Church, Mrs. Thomas was an active member of the Sunday School Class. Being an avid sports fan with special interest in football and tennis, she enjoyed supporting and following the Vardaman Rams and The University of Tennessee Volunteers. Her dedication touched and inspired many lives during her 86 years to her family, friends, and students alike. Mrs. Thomas will be missed by all.
Mrs. Thomas leaves behind Son, Dave (Lisa) Thomas of Piperton, TN; Granddaughter, Jessi Thomas (Clint) Diamond of Collierville, TN; and Great-Grandchildren, Kade Diamond and Juliana Grace Diamond.
There will be a visitation with the family on Tuesday, November 27, 2018 at Parker Memorial Funeral Home in Vardaman from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm.
A funeral service celebrating the life of Mrs. Thomas will be held on Wednesday, November 28, 2018 at Vardaman First Baptist Church, with services starting at 11:00 am. Leading prayers and officiating services will be Brother Robert Earl Alexander and Brother Joey Hamilton.
Mrs. Thomas will be laid to eternal rest following funeral services on Wednesday afternoon at Hillcrest Cemetery in Vardaman. Serving as Pallbearers will be John Jasper Adams, Johnny Cardwell, James Marshall Casey, Brent Harrell, Bobby Inmon, John Forest Martin, Earl McGreger, and Dewayne Winter. Serving as Honorary will be Bob Boutwell, Mark Bray, Bill Cooper, Bobby Parker, and Chris Ward, all former students of Mrs. Thomas.
Mrs. Thomas was preceded in death by her parents, husband, George Davis Thomas, Sr., sisters, Jean Liming and Pat Carter, and brother Bill Glover.
