- ELIZABETH D. FIELD
Elizabeth D. Field, 96, of Germantown, Tennessee, passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 19, 2015. A native of Drew, Mississippi, she was the daughter of Johnnie Beck Durley and Benton Alvin Durley. She attended Millsaps College in Jackson, Mississippi, receiving a BS in Science. She was a member of Kappa Delta sorority, serving as President her senior year. While there, she met the love of her life, Jennings Pemble Field, Jr. (“Pem”). After he was severely wounded while aboard the USS Arizona in Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941, they were married in April, 1942 and she became a Navy wife. After living in various cities, they settled in South Bend, Indiana where they lived a civilian life for many years before moving to Memphis. Elizabeth and Pem (deceased 1986) are survived by two daughters, Kate Elizabeth Boyd and Anna Ellis (Cato); four grandchildren, Will Boyd, Kara Nunn (Nick), Erin Avery (Chris), and Christopher Ellis (Paige); and nine great- grandchildren, Beth and Charles Boyd, Megan, Kristin and William Nunn, Anna Lee, Elizabeth and Ellis Avery, and Julia Ellis. Her long-time companion and caregiver, Beverly Wilburn, is also mourning her death. Elizabeth Field was a true southern lady and her many friends in Memphis, Germantown, and The Villages of Germantown will miss her greatly. Elizabeth volunteered for many years for her church, St. George’s Episcopal Church, and the Church Health Center. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her name to either of those organizations. Visitation will be held Saturday, March 21 at St. George’s Episcopal Church at 1 p.m., followed by the memorial service at 2 p.m. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.
