      Walter Lewis Boyd, 90, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, Aug. 13, 2016. His graveside service will be 11 a.m., Tuesday, August 16, at Oakwood Cemetery. He will be lying in state at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey, Monday, Aug. 15th. Walter was born November 8, 1925 to John Carlisle Boyd and Bertha Jane (Wilkinson) Boyd on the family farm at Eureka, Navarro County, Texas. He attended Mildred schools and graduated from Mildred High School in 1943.He was inducted into the U.S. Army in September 1944. After basic training at Camp Hood, he was sent to the Pacific Campaign, where he was assigned to Company C, 382nd Battalion, 96th Infantry Division on Okinawa. He was wounded in action on May 21, 1945. He received the Purple Heart and Combat Infantry Badge. After recuperation, he reenlisted in January 1946, for one year, and served in the European Army of Occupation in Austria. He was discharged in February. 1947, with the rank of Staff Sergeant. He married Brownilee Parker on May 31, 1947. They were blessed with the births of 3 sons: Parker in 1948, Mark in 1953, and Brett in 1957. He began working on May 1, 1947, for DeWitt Clark Lumber Co. and Clark Transit Mix. Later he became Office manager of both firms, and in 1969, became co-owner of Clark Concrete Inc. In 1986, they negotiated sale of the corporation to an English firm, and Walter remained one year as manager, after which he retired at age of 62 on Dec. 31, 1987. Walter and Brownie did extensive traveling during the ensuing years; traveling to all 50 states and four European tours, and celebrated their 50th Anniversary on an Alaskan cruise in May 1997. He was a member of Northwest Waco Rotary Club for 44 years, serving as President in 1968, and was a Paul Harris Fellow. Walter's hobbies included woodworking, genealogical research, and family gatherings. He held memberships in the Jamestown Society, Sons of American Revolution, Sons of the Republic of Texas, and life membership in the 96th Infantry Division Assn. He was a member of Western Heights Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Brownilee on Mar. 2, 1999, and 3 brothers and 3 sisters. He is survived by son Parker Boyd, son and daughter-in-law Mark and Cindy Boyd, son and daughter-in-law, Brett and Debby Boyd, all of Waco. He is also survived by his grandchildren and their spouses, Alan and Karen Boyd of Waco, Alison and Tim Kutschera of Shahola, PA, Amanda Bonovitch of Waco, Linden and Stephen Brewer of Houston, and Lindsey and Kevin Glomb of Dallas. He had six great- grandchildren, Katie Kutschera, Jake Kutschera, Zach Kutschera, Nick Bonovitch, Tucker Brewer and Harper Glomb. He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Robbie Floyd, and many loving cousins, nieces and nephews. Walter and Brownie shared many blessings in life, Our family believes that their most significant achievements were their roles as grandparents.
