Deceased Name: JANET LOWREY GAGER
JANET LOWREY GAGER, 72, of Amherst, Va., formerly of Memphis, retired director of public relations and publications for Sweet Briar (Va.) College, died Thursday in Port Chester, N.Y., after suffering a stroke. She received a bachelor's degree in 1944 from Southwestern at Memphis (Rhodes College), where she was editor of the student newspaper and active in student government, serving as secretary/treasurer of her senior class. She received a master's degree in English from the University of Chicago in 1952. She was curator of the Modern Poetry Library at the University of Chicago in 1962 and then taught English at Chicago State University in 1965. Mrs. Gager, the widow of Perrin Holmes Lowery, and wife of Forrest L. Gager Jr., also leaves a daughter, Anne Lowrey Bailey of Alexandria, Va.; a stepdaughter, Judy Perlman of Roanoke, Va.; a stepson, Brian Gager of Rye, N.Y.; a sister, Edith Kelso of Memphis, and nine grandchildren. The family requests, in lieu of flowers, that any memorials be sent to the United Hospital Hospice or the University of Chicago.
