  11 BN LA INF CSA "Wash" was born March 3, 1828 in Catahoula Parish, Louisiana and died March 3, 1912 in Natchitoches, Louisiana. He is buried in the American Cemetery at Natchitoches. He was a stockman and farmer. He saw service during the War Between the States serving as a Private in Company A, 11 Louisiana Infantry Battalion, Confederate States of America. He came though the war unscathed after participating in some of the worst battles fought in Louisiana. During the conflict, he "walked away" (a common practice) and went home to be with Lizzie for the birth of their second child in January of 1863. There is no record of how long he stayed, but there was evidently no problem when he rejoined his unit. According to Army records, he was about six and one half inches tall with sandy hair and light eyes. He had a terrible grooved scar across his middle which he said came from "rasseling a bear'' he met in the woods. [3]
