• Notes

  Upon the death of his mother from typhoid fever, he was taken in and raised as a foster son by his aunt, Sarah Priscilla Morgan. He attended the University of South Carolina, and they moved to Roanoke in 1932 where he served as manager of the Brotherhood Mercantile—whose president was his uncle, James Berry Morgan.
