Deceased Name: Jack Carrington , who opened Dallas EPA office, dies at 57
Services for Jack Petty Carrington Jr., who opened the first Dallas regional office for the Environmental Protection Agency's Office of Inspector General, will be at 11 a.m. Monday at St. Mark the Evangelist Catholic Church, 1201 Alma Drive in Plano.
Mr. Carrington, 57, died Thursday at Baylor University Medical Center of complications from a kidney transplant.
"He had a major impact on everybody he touched," said his wife of 34 years, Linda Carrington of Richardson. "He was a really great person in the sense that he had a huge heart. He would give you the shirt off his back if you needed it."
Born April 6, 1944, Mr. Carrington was raised in Canton, Miss. He earned a bachelor's degree in accounting from Mississippi State University. After graduating in 1966, Mr. Carrington began work as an auditor for the U.S. government.
In 1972, he opened the regional office of audit for the EPA in Dallas. He was the audit manager for the five-state region until his retirement in 1996.
"He created a pleasant work environment, really encouraging you to really do your best," said Les Partridge of Plano, whom Mr. Carrington hired in 1987.
Mr. Carrington later worked as an operations manager at Key Systems in Plano until March.
Mr. Carrington served as president of the Dallas chapter of the Association of Government Accountants from 1988 to 1989. He served as regional vice president of the association from 1991 to 1993. He was also involved in the Southwest Intergovernmental Audit Forum and was a member of the men's golf association at Los Rios Country Club in Plano.
Mr. Carrington coached basketball, soccer and baseball for the Plano Sports Authority from 1978 to 1983.
He attended St. Mark the Evangelist Catholic Church since 1972.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Carrington is survived by a son, Flinn Carrington of Plano; and two brothers, Wilson Carrington of Ridgeland, Miss., and Patrick Carrington of Madison, Miss.
