- Boyd Franklin Carrington, 64, died in an accidental fire in his mobile homeat First and Second Streets about 9 p.m. Saturday, the Cookeville Fire Department reported. The fire which claimed the life of the well-known Cookeville man, was one of a number the fire department answered over the weekend. However, it was the only one in which there was injuries.
Mr. Carrington was associated with his brother Bee in the Spur Service Station on Broad Street.
A couple, who saw the smoke pouring from the mobile home, reported the fire to the fire department. Firemen on the scene said the fire apparently started when an electric heater overturned, igniting the bed.
Funeral services for Mr. Carrington were held Monday, Jan. 17 at the Chapel of Whitson Funeral Home with Bro. Calvin Braswell and Rev. Andrew Albert officiating. Burial was in Cookeville City Cemetery.
He was the son of Arch C. and Alice Brown Carrington. He was a member of the Missionary Baptist Church. Among his survivors are his wife, Mrs. Clara Stanton Carrington of Phoenix, Arizona; one son, Earl Carrington, also of Phoenix; 2 daughters, Louise Schwalter of Phoenix and Elise Barr of Canton, Ohio; one sister, Mrs. Everett Presley of Bloomington Springs, Tenn.; 3 brothers, Clarence, Bethel and Bee Carrington all of Cookeville; and 6 grandchildren.
