- George "Spud" Brenson Morgan of Atoka passed away peacefully at Methodist North Hospital surrounded by his family who loved him so dearly. He was a Homebound Teacher for Tipton County Schools. he had also been a teacher at Munford High School, worked for Firestone Tire and Rubber Co. in Memphis, farmed in Tipton County, and sold watermelons everywhere. He loved the Lord, his family, Atoka, Alabama football and his many students.
Spud visited the sick and had a tremendous capacity for love and compassion. To many, he was a jokester who never met a stranger but to those closest to him he was a faithful husband, loving father, devoted son and brother and a special uncle. His absence will be felt by the many lives he touched.
Spud leaves his wife of 41 years, Debbie, and his adored daughter, Jessica (Jessie) Ann Morgan Ph.D., of Memphis. He also leaves his mother, Janie Gragg, for whom he has provided many years of care; his sisters, Sheila (Robert) Sage, Gale Poston, and Phyllis Bynum; brother Wayne (Marian) Morgan; and sister-in-law, Ann Wright. He was preceded in death by his father, George Russell Morgan, and his beloved stepfather, Charles "PawPaw Charlie Brown" Gragg.
Services took place on Jan. 30 at 2:30 pm at the Munford Funeral Home, Munford Chapel. Interment followed at Salem Cemetery. The family asks any memorials be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758517, Topeka, Kansas 66675.
